If Superheroes Taught Math

Jack, this is for you.

*snicker*snort*

Derivative Man: Evil function, your end has come! I will calculate the slope of a tangent line drawn anywhere on your entire evil body!

Function Man: Ha ha ha! Not a chance, Derivative Boy! What you don't know is that I am a function of many variables!!

Derivative Man: No!

Function Man: Yes!

Derivative Man: This is a job for ... Partial Derivative Man!!

You know, my high school calculus text was done from a fairy tale POV. You know the sort... boy wanders into magical kingdom where the king and his astrologers are faced with complex problems often by an evil wizard and must invent calculus to solve the problems. Of course, this was a rather oddly mathematical kingdom, where the chief royal advisors included Triginometrus, the Keeper of the Royal Triangles. And a magic blackboard for doing calculations. And a huge warehouse of mathematical functions (apparently left over from an earlier book in the series that we didn't use).

I'm not sure a superhero take would be that much different... But I sure like the efforts made in this thread.
